The 'standalone' version is actually US$30. That is the same price as Affinity Photo for the iPad - an app that won the coveted 'App of the Year' award, and is developed by an entire team of highly-skilled developers in the UK. When you consider that WhiteCap - as well as the other visualisers the developer produces - is produced as a hobby, by a one-man band, in his spare time, it is blatantly obvious to everyone that the pricing here is utterly unrealistic, and will turn away most potential buyers. The irony here is, that if the developer decided to price them reasonably - say, at a US$2.00, the price of a 'normal' game or art app that will entertain you for a couple of hours - WhiteCap (and his other visualiser offerings) would probably be MUCH more successful, and would be likely to collect very positive reviews. He has indeed been developing these visualisers for a couple of decades, so they have now evolved to have quite stable, solid code. They are hypnotic, and nice to look at - for fifteen minutes or so at a time - and would be WELL worth a US$2 price tag. When reviewing any product, however, we have to take into consideration whether there is value-for-money to be had, and at the current price point, the answer is a very unavoidable 'NO'.

$20 for a friggin' visual plugin (or $30 for the whooeee! "Platinum" edition?!?!" (Plus $15 or more for the frequent upgrade fees, or so I've read?) Well, there's a sucker born every day and unfortunately, the only person laughing is the developer...all the way to the bank.! WhiteCap is another insignificant product from Soundspectrum, who charges the same outrageous prices for the G-Force visual plugin. I wouldn't pay more than $3 for an iTunes plugin unless it had genuine AI built in and it could do my tax returns and make my toast in the morning. (Incidentally, the basic version of TurboTax IS FREE and it DOES do my taxes.)

Something like a visualizer (or a screensaver) should NEVER cost as much as WhiteCap. And it's worth mentioning that I have never uses the application–did I mention it's a visualizer, an iTunes visualizer–but would only consider such an application if the cost was in the single digits. But $20!? Who NEEDS to pay so much for what amounts to eye candy?

Wow, this thing is still in development? Are there actually people out there paying $15/year for an iTunes visualizer? I used to love this plugin way back in the day (15+ years ago...), but haven't used it since the developer started charging absurd amounts of money for it.

So how does this software end up with the coveted bold red text at the top of MacUpdate's list at the end of the day? It has a really poor rating yet other software that rates much higher and has more downloads than this doesn't make the cut...

$20 for a screensaver/visualizer? I don't think so, even without the yearly renewals. Adding $15 a year on top of that earns the coveted raspberry award - PFFFFFT.

Not nearly as interesting as SoundSpectrum's G-Force but also ruined by their $15 yearly upgrade tax. Sorry, it's a no go for me. $15 per year for updates forever after? NO WAY! %20, or $30 for the Platinum edition plus the yearly $15 tax? I think not.

Hey guys I hear ya, if you have an older Mac! you begin to worry that a newer version won't work. I've learned to burn older DL files, SoundSpectrum doesn't keepan archive page. Right now I'm on a Slot Loading iMac, I was lucky enough to have DL files for G-Force v3.01 and whitecap 4.7.4 Moral is save those files

Andy, I can't find anything with the download or on the SoundSpectrum website that state what the "required graphics hardware" are. What are they?

Expected version 5.0.3, but 5.0.2 arrived. The access to the menu choices was not intuitive, but I figured it out. The description of the effects of the numerous choices is not obvious by their titles, so easily getting to an appropriate on-screen help file is in order .. even the spartan "Press H for Help" in the start-up splash screen is easily ignored ..

Well, tried v5.02 and was informed that that it can't be run on my computer because it lacks required graphics hardware. Apparently, Whitecap now needs greater resources than the latest version of G-Force, which runs just fine on my 17" Powerbook. Ah well, sometimes life's a bitch, ya know? Sigh......

Installed the WhiteCap 5.0 trial but the iTunes WhiteCap visualiser doesn't show any images after the title fades out, just a black screen. Anyone else?

If memory serves, the British, Japan, Canada, and United States have all been part of White Cap in the past -- maybe others I haven't noticed. I'm a staunch liberal, but it doesn't strike me intentionally political to have various flags in the app to show off a cool waving effect. Just enjoy this great freeware from Andy -- it's an amazing visualizer.
