Is there a conflict of interest between MacUpdate and Intego VirusBarrier? I enjoy posting updates in Comments as I come across them because I greatly value MU. MU responds by reporting those updates. I'm glad to help! But when it comes to a few apps, such as VirusBarrier.... *sigh*

v10.9.78 is out. - -> BTW: I've enjoyed using Intego for many years. It doesn't (does not) slow down your computer. There are very regular updates. HOWEVER! The company does subject users to analytics by way of Mixpanel. If you've got a 'reverse firewall', such as that by Intego itself (!) or Little Snitch, you'll find that every Intego process feeds back to Mixpanel. "Mixpanel is an event analytics service company that tracks user interactions with web and mobile applications. Data collected is used to build custom reports and measure user engagement and retention." - Wikipedia. - -> If you don't like this, you can "Deny" outgoing connections to Mixpanel in your reverse firewall.

v10.9.60 is out today. Happiness is: I continue to be astounded that Real-Time Scanning on my M1 MBPro in Low Priority mode is entirely unnoticeable in the background while I work. Yes, it's a bit overkill for my situation, but bravo.

VirusBarrier does its job, BUT: It is always disturbing my workflow by asking for full access (every time you start your computer the question pops up again, even when you already gave the permission in the "login items"-menu). The Traffic scanner is even worse in making you nervous. You need to deactivate all permissions. It seems to be impossible to prevent VirusBarrier from autostart. VirusBarrier auto-starts, even, when it is not in the "login items" list. In addition to all that it even slows down my high-end-super-modern MacBook Pro on Big Sur (2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9 - 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 - Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB). I deleted that annoying software by using CleanMyMac, because the official uninstaller by Intego doesn't do the complete job.

Bonjour, après une année complète d'utilisation de cette série d'utilitaires sur mon Imac 5K de 2017, je viens de le désinstaller !... BEAUCOUP TROP DE RALENTISSEMENTS SOUS MAC OS BIG SUR !... Et trop souvent des blocages avec le message “Vous ne possédez pas les autorisations permettant d'ouvrir l'application”. Insupportable !... Après avoir donc fait la désinstallation complète (attention une extension système n'est pas désinstaller par l'installeur officielle d'Intego et il faut le faire à la main en désactivant le SIP), j'ai retrouvé un système bien plus véloce et stable. J'espère que cela aidera... ;-)

Netupdate repeatedly fails to download new virus definitions requiring you to uninstall VirusBarrier. Intego support has failed to respond despite being a customer for 12 years.

Been using for years. Real Time does not harm computers speed. I have minor issues, but service is first rate! Send report and they get back with in 24 hours.

Intego VirusBarrier remains my personal favorite anti-malware app for Mac. But here's why I knocked off one star: (1) When you allow it to use Real-Time Scanning without 'Scan on low priority', it literally eats your system calls alive. Nothing else is allowed to run, creating the worst possible 'Sit&Spin' scenario. So, don't do that unless you ONLY want VirusBarrier running. Note that unless you're doing something questionable, there is no point in using Real-Time Scanning on a Mac anyway. If you're downloading stuff that could potentially be Trojans or scamWarz crap, then use it! (2) When VirusBarrier does find something bad, it doesn't provide ANY method of canceling out of either Trust what it found, or Repair (aka kill) what it found, or if you have Real-Time Scanning on, shoving the thingy into Quarantine. Those are your only choices. You cannot cancel out of those choices. You cannot Quit the app. You're forced to Force Quit! I've gone over this lousy situation with their tech support twice at this point. But for whatever reason, possibly to prevent malware from killing this mode, they won't change this feature. It can get a bit infuriating. They also never provide a list of what malware protection is provided with updates or what malware the app protects you from as a whole. That's of course due to anti-malware being a competitive UN-scientific business by default, which is annoying but inevitable. - - Otherwise, I love this app. It is frequently updated. It has frequent new malware definition updates. It's fast at scanning after its initial scan of a system. - - I also never buy the yearly malware subscriptions at the standard price. Never. It always goes on sale somewhere or other. This week I got a dirt cheap extra year's worth as part of upgrading Parallels Desktop. Last year I got 3 years worth of updates for dirt cheap as part of a software bundle. Keep an eye out for discounts!

For today, know that v10.9.18 is currently *only* available to a select group of users. Intego tech support told me the final version will be out in few days. I'm assuming it is currently in beta testing.

I've been using VB for decades with no problems; the updates have worked perfectly. I currently use VB on my iMac Pro, 10.13.2. I really sympathize with ppl having problems, but through all the versions, I've had no problems. I'm able to switch between startup drives ...

I have just purchased your Mac Optimizer and it will not launch, please rectify this for me. Also on a subsequent attempt to install mac Optimizer a pop up said Only X was being installed, I did not purchase this or continue with this install. I have also just purchased Disc Diet which installed without issue. I have also unresolved issues with a package I purchased a time ago.(Screen shot of purchases below) Each time I try to install a pop up message says “Insert the (nuli) disc to continue” or “Insert the Virus BarrierX9 to continue"I have no idea what these specified discs are or how to access it, can you please help with these issues..
