Tweeten overview

Tweeten is an intuitive and powerful Twitter experience built for those who get real work done.

Tweeten's powerful, column-based interface helps you keep track of everything that's happening on Twitter without needing to hit the refresh button. Keep track of notifications, trends, searches, lists, activites, and everything else right on your desktop, real-time.

Tweeten Features:
  • A powerful, yet simple interface: Tweeten's powerful, column-based interface helps you keep track of everything that's happening on Twitter without needing to hit the refresh button. Keep track of notifications, trends, searches, lists, activites, and everything else right on your desktop, real-time.
  • Do more than just "more": Tweeten's is stupendously fast. All the built-in features enables you to do a lot more than just "more", and the nifty keyboard shortcuts lets you get to things instantly. The advanced search and filtering system lets you track the exact query you want, removing all the unnecessary noise and keeping you updated in real-time using TweetDeck.
  • Powerful features for GIF lovers: Tweeten is built for GIF lovers. You can download literally any GIF that you see on tweets with a single click of a button. Tweeten also lets you zoom into GIFs, letting you view all the details in a GIF without hurting your eye balls. Our built-in GIF search will let you find the perfect GIF at the right time, coming later this Summer.

What’s new in version 5.5.0

Updated on Jul 29 2021

Version 5.5.0:
Changes:
  • Introducing Tweeten Notifications:
    • Get real-time updates for your columns, built on top of the existing TweetDeck notification system.
    • Tweeten Notifications allow you to interact with tweets directly, including being able to like a tweet.
    • Complete control over how and where notifications appear via Tweeten Settings > Notifications.
    • You can view images and GIFs within notifications.
    • You can view quoted tweets in notifications, as well as more general details for each tweet/notification.
    • Tweeten Notifications respect Do Not Disturb settings in macOS (only on Intel Mac devices) and Focus Assist settings in Windows 10/11.
    • Built-in mute feature allows you to temporarily disable notifications easily.
  • Added the ability to set custom notification sounds (#233). This is independent of Tweeten Notifications, so you will be able to use custom notification sounds even if you disable Tweeten Notifications.
  • Added the ability to disable the spell checker (#211).
  • Added ability to choose the language for spell checker on Windows. On macOS, Tweeten follows native OS settings (System Preferences > Keyboard > Spelling).
  • The new Tweeten logo has been slightly adjusted to be larger on both Windows and macOS.
  • Fixed an issue where the app would not close properly in macOS (#238), resulting in changed behaviour:
    • When you now close the Tweeten window with the red X button, it will simply hide the window, and clicking on the Tweeten icon on the taskbar will show the window again. This will ensure that notifications still show up and that you are able to perform tweet actions (like/RT/reply) from the notifications.
    • To completely close the app, including the notifications, you will have to hit CMD+Q, or "Quit App" from the context menu of the app in the dock.
    • This is in line with the behaviour of other apps such as Discord, Spotify, etc.
  • Fixed an issue where the app would not focus the existing instance when attempting to launch a second instance with "multiple instances" option disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the compact RT modal did not work when the Tweeten window is narrow (#248).
  • Fixed an issue where the compact RT modal broke modals such as "Add or remove from lists..." and "Add to Collection..." (#249).
  • Changed compact RT modal behaviour to only close when the tweet moves. Previously, the modal would close if there was any scroll event in the app.
  • Fixed an issue where native Twitter videos would not play (#230).
  • Fixed an issue where the GIF zoom preview would take up the entire window for larger GIFs (#243).
  • Fixed an issue where the app wouldn't persist previous window state before installing a new update.
  • Fixed an issue where the "clear column" quick action did not appear for Search columns (#227).
  • Fixed an issue where Tweeten did not persist the zoom level across sessions (#192).

It's been a while, and there was a new version, so I tried it again. It's still limited to one account, which makes it only mildly useful. Not useful enough to switch over, though.

At first glance, a 305.8 MB client is very heavy. It runs well but the interface is very busy. You can literally have many columns all updating simultaneously. It is very tricky to isolate a tweet for further reading with them whizzing by. Glad to play with it some more and review it later.

Similar experience as TachyOn. Throws me back to login page whether I agree to move to applications folder or not. But if I agree to move to applications folder, it doesn't actually move it, I had to do it manually.

It gets caught in a mindless loop- login, tells me it really wants me to move it to my Applications folder for self-update to work properly. To this I say no and it returns me to the login window. I haven’t even used it.

It seemed to log directly into my Tweetdeck account and had my columns already set. It was easy to tidy that up and get started with something new. The benefit of being able to like from any of your accounts is available buried as a menu item on each tweet. It has an impressive array of settings which allows for some UI changes that make it easier to handle the overflow of information this method of viewing Twitter will provide. Tweeten is an improvement over Tweetdeck, but was a resource hog at 300 MB of memory.
