Tresorit overview

Tresorit is an end-to-end encrypted, secure cloud storage and file sharing solution designed to store, sync and share confidential data.

Simply turn any folder to a Tresor and place a file into it and they will automatically sync with every devices connected to the same account. Encryption is performed before the data gets uploaded to the cloud. Decryption is only possible with permission from the owner and already encrypted contents can be shared without re-encryption, but in a 100 percent secure way.

To prove the security of Tresorit, the company initiated a bounty of $50,000 and invited leading Universities and hackers to breach their service. To date noone has succeeded despite attempts by hundreds including MIT, Stanford, Caltech and Harvard.

As a board member of a non-profit, I originally chose it for our secure storage. I liked the idea of Zero Knowledge (consult their web site for an explanation). Much more secure that just about everybody else. The software works well and I’ve run it under OS 10.9, Windows 10 and iOS without a problem. Integrates well with Mac and Windows. Support is quite good. Typically my questions are answered in much less than 1 day. I’ve been a personal subscriber for a bit over 1 year.

The price on MacUpdate is significantly misleading. First, it is $12.00/user/month for a minimum 10 users (i.e. $144/month). For an individual it is $20/month.

Not very useful for a Mac user. It won't sync files/folders with common characters like / , < ,> or ?. They're all allowed in macOS. It also does not sync finder comments and tags so it can destroy your document management.

Hmh… they say their server are in switzerland. Where? They say, the company is based in switzerland. But the whole names an phones are Hungarian. They say "Supported by a grant from Switzerland through the Swiss Contribution" but the documents cannot be found. Make it clear, Tresorit, before we trust.

I recently began using Tresorit, and so far I like it. In addition to Tresorit's security features like client-side encryption and servers based in the EU, things I like about the software include being able to sync any folder I want, so I'm not constrained to having to put everything into a single folder like Dropbox, and being able to not sync some folders (called "Tresors") on some computers, which is similar to Dropbox's selective sync feature. The only thing I don't like is that Tresorit doesn't handle Mac OS X metadata properly (or at all). Most annoying is that Mavericks tags aren't synced. Almost as annoying is Tresorit doesn't like "invalid characters" like question marks, which may be invalid on some other operating system (Windoze), but are perfectly valid in OS X. Another annoyance is that file extensions that are hidden on the source Mac appear visible when synced to another Mac. Similarly, files that are invisible on the source computer show up as visible when synced to another computer.

Tresorit is good stuff. Have been using it for a while now, using duplicate folders rather than originals at the moment. Seems solid, takes a while to sync single files but really quite reasonable for 100+ files in a folder. I like the idea of client side encryption, rather than server side. Would be nice to have a version indicator in the preferences, an updating indicator as well. Also would be nice to know what systems are accessing the tresors, i.e., my iPad/iPhone/laptop and some indication about how synced they are. This software is good and seems solid. Have had no crashes yet although it is easy to confuse it when one folder is removed/trashed on one machine, and its tresor is removed on the other using tresorit, it throws a lost error. Have also read the white paper. DropBox is still used for convenience but knowing that its not really secure, I only use it for public stuff. Prefer Tresorit for privacy. 5 stars.

I bumped into Tresorit about a month ago and have been using Tresorit for Mac from the very early stages. What I really like is that it is easy to use, the UI is very intuitive and it syncs smoothly and quickly for me. I gave lower score on the features, because I deadly miss referrals and upgrade options, but they told me it is coming in a few weeks, so I may improve it :) On the other hand the security and the privacy Tresorit offers is incomparably better than the others out there (and it it very important for me since I store there many of my business stuff). Definitely worth a try, if you have not yet done that, it is time to move on from dropbox!
