TNEFs Enough overview

TNEF's Enough allows Macs to read and extract files from Microsoft TNEF stream files. The files are usually received via email from Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook users. You will usually receive an attachment named "winmail.dat." If someone has even sent you a message or file and all you have received is a "winmail.dat" file then you need TNEF's Enough to open it and extract the embedded file.

I've used this for years, it's a great solution for the dreaded winmail.dat attachment. The whopping price of free you can't beat it, but consider a donation to the Dev too. All you need to do is to associate the winmail.dat file with TNEFs Enough once. Just drag to your desktop, right click and click Get Info. Then change the Open with option and hit change all. After that if you see that ugly Microsoft winmail.dat attachment just double click on it and you're good to go.

Tried to open three different 'Winmail.dat' files. Each of them gives a similar result, like this: https://i.imgur.com/26zyhSa.png (Could not be opened...) Seems useless.

Excellent and simple tool to deal with those annoying occasions when you get an winmail.dat attachment. It might be nice if it was integrated more into mail apps but in reality I can probably manage to download it and in any case with Postbox which I use I have set it to open .dat files with TNEF and will see how that works. Well done a great tool for an annoying problem. Alan

This software is good, but is it possible to have one where you don't have to open the file using this app separately. i.e. the software can be integrated with Mail.

Yes, version 3.2.1 works perfectly on my new MacBook Pro. I now use it to download email attachments sent via Outlook on a PC (I've transferred a couple of music files from my PC via email that way). Follow the advice given by Bradsmith74 and a double click on any .dat attachment to an email message will open up, then drag the file to where you want it (in my case, I dragged .m4a files into iTunes on the dock - loads right up and works great).

Version 3.2.1 was flawless extracting a .pdf file from a winmail.dat file I received as a Thunderbird attachment on my iMac (Intel) running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Installation and functionality is very straight forward on the developers website so you might want to look there. Just select the dock icon and use the File menu to select the file you want to open, then select the attachment and either double click or use the Extract command to save it. Well done Josh.

I have used this twice. It works great! Simple to use. No need to use Apple's Mail app. (I use Thunderbird.) Difficulties with .dat files are a thing of the past.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally find this program and realize that it was solvable. I have one vendor that I have a ton of email problems with, the winmail.dat file has been the latest issue. I've fought with this problem for sometime. I installed this app, followed the file association as Bradsmith74 mention and it works great. I can now open those pesky files and extract just what I need.

the version linked to from this page is for powerpc's only. Go to the author's web site to get one that works with intel macs. works well, I'd like to be able to double click a file to open it rather than just have it ask where to save it. Also, quick look would be a neat feature to have.
