Sweet Home 3D

Has been working perfectly until 6.4.2 but 6.5 refuses to launch (on 10.11), be it with the full app including Java 15 or the light one (when Java is already installed on the computer).

I have used this app in the past for rearranging my small apartment — actually one room serving as a recording studio/bedroom/office/bathroom, you can imagine how it's critical to find out how to fit everything in... ;-) SweetHome is really handy, designing your furniture and testing various fittings until you find the best one. I've had a freeze since v4.5 under 10.9 whenever I opened the save dialog, I never understood what was causing it (incompatibility with another software? Java?) — it was working ok in a clean user profile or in a 10.6 virtual machine, though... Looks like the issue has gone with v6, I was not able to reproduce it but I haven't used it extensively neither. Great software, anyway! :-)

Java issue: it wants me to install the antique Java 6. WTH?

OS X 10.11, only the splashscreen is displayed. The project is still hosted on sourceforge.net which is renowned for injecting adware into hosted projects.

just built a floor plan for renovations. process is pretty intuitive, only a few things like square columns or round posts are missing. Nice job, thank you.

This is a terrific programme. It's powerful, easy to use, rock solid, and it's free! I've been using it with great success to design stage sets.

Pros: smooth, intuitive, appropriately-featured, free Cons: adjusting the view on the 3-D image can be cumbersome, working in three panes can be overpowering on small screen In the process of moving to different locations, I had to plan furniture placements for an apartment and a house. I tried this and Live Interior in a "quick and dirty" test. Sweet Home 3D is the one that stuck with me. This program worked very smoothly to do exactly what I needed in an easy manner. I could layout the floor plans quickly on hand the dimensions to the exterior house plan and/or the interior rooms. I could switch between the 2-D layout and the 3-D rendering quickly. I could even design a foyer that was wrapped in a three-segment staircase to a second floor. The program had all the tools that I needed. One issue that I faced was the lack of enough furniture in the free version. I appreciate that this restriction is lifted in the paid version. Another was getting used to how the 3-D rendering could be "tweaked" to give the best view. In truth, I am only now tapping in to the different ways to walk-thru a layout in 3-D. Finally, working with three panes (furniture, 2-D plan, and 3-D image) on a small screen (MacBook Pro) was limiting. I can well imagine the software works far better using a second monitor with the 3-D image split off to it. Other than this, I might add that I certainly have a lot more to learn about how best to do such things as extending existing walls around corners, changing display lighting in the 3-D view, and making the 3-D view fancy. When your needs are as basic as mine (furniture layout), you likely cannot beat this program for feature/price ratio. I can imagine this program will also be very useful to plan an addition or remodel to a home. I like the free version so much, I will likely get the paid version from MAS to be ready for exactly such needs in the future.

Its seldom I have to use an app as this. But I had to rearrange our living room so was looking for something like this. Surprisingly it was very easy to draw the room and do some furniture juggling. Great free !!

In just two min. I made a room with doors and windows and made changes to the way the doors open. This is how this type of program should work. I can't wait till I have an hour to spend with it, I'm sure I will create my complete house in that time. And free to top it off. Learning curve? I think not much so far a five year old could do it. (No offense to the 3 year olds out there)

Has a steep learning curve but the results are kinda good. Great app !

Hello ! Can that applications upload the created files direcktly to Google and sharing over internet ? as sketchup does? I will have a try , thank you very much .

I find it quite stable; more so than the paid applications I demoed before chosing to work with this program. I also find it very intuitive and easier to resize walls and rooms than with other similar programs. It would also be nice to be able to define a snap range; for example every 10 cm or every 6 inches, etc. The program needs a better way to do floors and the ability to do multi-story homes. It also needs to import Google Sketchup objects as many other programs can do. Oh, and it's free, and better than many paid applications that purport to do the same.

Oops... "What's *to* complain about?"

This little app is pretty sweet indeed. It's easy to use (the 2D design pane is intuitive, although doors and windows that snapped to walls would be a good idea) and the 3D view is well-rendered and easy to navigate through in walk-through mode. Overall, think it's perfect if you want to quickly try out some room layouts, etc. It's not on a par with the capabilities of SketchUp, but it is not intended to compete there - it's aimed at a more casual user. And, of course, you can't beat the price! Oh, as for it being a Java app - so what?! It's well integrated with OS X: menu in the menubar, prefs in correct place, nice toolbar icons, etc. What's not complain about?!

I tried to use this, but the user interface is, like so many Java apps, horrible. It's too bad, since the features of this app seem nice. I was eager to create a layout from the measurements I have, but the awkward zooming, crude positioning and wretched data input left me exhausted after just a couple of walls. This has a lot of promise, though. It seemed quite stable and ran quickly. The basic features appear well-focused and useful. But the drawing tools need a lot of work.
