Sonic Visualiser overview

Sonic Visualiser is an application for inspecting and analysing the contents of music audio files. It combines powerful waveform and spectral visualisation tools with automated feature extraction plugins and annotation capabilities.

Add option to switch off the interpolation used in the waveform view for zoom levels closer than one pixel per frame: sometimes it can be an unnecessary distraction. With interpolation switched off, the individual samples are shown as unconnected points instead
Make it possible to toggle segment colouring in the segmentation view of the time value layer, as well as toggling segment division lines
When importing CSV files, if a column heading indicates a likely unit for the column, use it by default; also remember last user settings for the import dialog
Ensure the Choose Default Template option on the templates menu can be reached even when no file is loaded
Give the spectrum layer the same effective scale range as it had before the dB scale fix in v4.4, fixing the accidental halving of the visible range for that layer in v4.4
Fix hang when opening two plugin parameter dialogs at once
Fix crash when rendering slice or spectrum layers scrolled to earlier than the start of the audio or later than the end
Fix crash when more than one audio file is supplied at the command line with a default session template that requires regenerating one or more feature extraction layers and layer generation produces an error or warning
Fix failure to exit fully if the window is closed before plugin scan is complete at startup

More trouble than I care to bother with since it's not ready-to-use.

From the dev's site:
"Don't forget your plugins!
Analysis plugins: Oh yes, you'll want some of those. Go to the Vamp plugin download page.
No plugins are included with Sonic Visualiser itself."

A superb application for the musician. It will do everything that the paid music analysis apps do - and for free. Very powerful. And with the available plug-ins permits such procedures as chord analysis, beat and bar tracking, as well as slow-down, pitch change...in fact it really can do most anything a musician wants

This is a must have bit of software for any music theorist that wants to indulge in some of the same sonic analysis of music that Robert Cogan came up with some years ago. Being freeware is also remarkable too

This is AWESOME. Wonderful sound, amazing capabilities, what else can you ask for FREE?? I recommend this instead of paying for commercial slow-down practice software, it does that and more. Works with LADSPA and VAMP plugins, can save in all sorts of ways. See waveforms, loop sections, etc. etc. opens mp3 and other file formats... Everything for me works great except crashing during one 3rd-party plugin, so I just don't use that one.
