SmashTunes overview

SmashTunes is a Music (/ iTunes) and Spotify controller that lets you control your favorite music apps by keyboard shortcuts (hot keys). It displays the currently playing song in your menu bar and artwork floating in a window. SmashTunes automatically adopts to the available menu bar space. This means no more interruptions of your work, to lookup what song's palying. From the menu you can control rate the songs as well.

Nothing but freezes lately that need a force quit of Smashtunes. Also even in its good days changing between Spotify and iTunes messed Smashtunes up too. Pity though, it was a sweet little program when it worked.

a simple, but great menu app, that i can customize as i need. been using it for years, and now, with this update, using it in el capitan. reads my itunes AND spotify. perfect! (or close enough...)

I'm using Smashtunes with OS X 10.68 for now. Is there any way to get it to NOT beep several times every time a new song plays, or when you pause or play? This is very annoying and unnecessary. Otherwise, I love the app, especially now when it no longer relaunches iTunes when you quit iTuens.

I'm very happily using this now, and very happy that (a) it's currently supported, so it plays nicely with Mavericks, and (b) that it correctly places itself in the menubar (I was using the discontinued BravoTunes until now, but it didn't like Mavericks). My only puzzlement is that the Pause/Play menu items are switched (in this version, at least) so that it says Play when it's already playing - this is not intuitive, given that it's an action (along with Next and Previous), and not a status item. I'd also like the option to change font size/face. Very nice otherwise, though.

I have downloaded the trial last weekend and upon I started using it, I said out loud" this is what I've always wanted!". A great app plus extremely easy to use. So after a day or so, I decided to buy it, I clicked the button which indicated me to its website, but realized it could only be paid through paypal. The only problem was, paypal doesnt support my country (Macao), luckily on the site it has a button that says " if you want to pay through other methods, tell us" And so I sent the message/email to the developer...but even until today (after at least 5 days) still no reply. The trial is almost over, only a week left, and yet I still got no response. Hopefully I get a reply here within this weekend, cause I really love this app!

I was looking for such an application to display the song name in the menubar. Most of the other apps have a small display area where the song names scroll through and they use small typefaces. I found that hard to quickly read. SmashTunes displays it using the same typeface as the system and displays the whole info WITHOUT scrolling. A quick glance and I can see everything I need too. I found the developer to be very responsive and the price to be quite agreeable.

I know a person needs to make a buck, by I have to recommend checking out QuickTunes (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15414/quicktunes) as a free alternative. It has most of the same features as SmashTunes, plus it has adjustable font size. (The font also renders better in my menubar.) It also works fine in Snow Leopard.
