Skyrocket

I've had access to Skyrocket for several years. It is one of the best screensavers that I have ever had. When it comes to fireworks there is nothing that even comes close to it. I have a question for the developer. In the past, the screensaver would send up and fire an impossible firework. It would last longer than the rest of the fireworks and do impossible beautiful visual things. I never timed it to find out how often the impossible firework would happen. My question is: does this still happen in your program?

I discovered this masterful creation years ago and it still wows me and others who view it. Brilliantly conceived and implemented. Fireworks done right! The whole scene comes together just beautifully. One of the finest screensavers out there today.

I tried to update this screen-saver, it says compatible with Snow Leopard but it won't work.

Great job! And as a commercial pilot, I can tell you that your simulation is very good - especially the sky and ground. I don't think I've ever seen those fireworks get quite that much altitude in real life though! Not while flying a commercial jet, at least!

Concerning JWBRENT's issue. Amoung other hardware systems I, also, run an iBook G4 and have found that this saver operates perfectly - sound included. Like him I'm running Tiger 4.7, but at 1.42GHz. I shouldn't imagine that such a tiny difference between our operating speeds should provide any impact on the saver's performance whatsoever. That aside, this must be one of the best (free) savers going!

Great job! My hat's off to the developer for posting this fine screensaver for free. I'll try to send something. There have been some truly solid screen savers of late, including this app, Timelapse and Soundstream. Good ideas and well implemented. If only Gaslamp would be wrewritten for Intel machines now, and as a screensaver?

Newest version (1.2.1) works great on my iBook G4 1.33ghz running 10.4.7 but when I enable the sound, it crashes.

Well, Skyrocket IS quite nice. I find it really esthetically pleasing to watch.....and it doesn't get tiresome. There's a pretty wide range of settings, allowing for some interesting rendering. To the developer....well done!! I even think that this screen saver is worth charging a few shekels for, maybe $5-$8. I'd buy it.

Right click on the download link and click save as...if the app sucks for 500mhz imac's i'll post an update.

Beautiful! And timely -- I was *just* going to look for a screen saver to replace Words, which doesn't run on Intel. We've come a long way since Pyro!

Absolutely spectacular. Make sure you turn on smoke, the glows off the spark trails are really incredible. The only fly in the ointment is the fairly lo-res landscape texture as mentioned by others (although I love that you can make out a little blurry soccer field in there). A good bump-mapped terrain texture would make this illusion perfect. Thank you for this screensaver!

Absolutely gorgeous! One of the most stunning screen savers I've ever seen, and it runs beautifully on my 20" iMac Core Duo. Impressive!!! I agree with the poster who requested the ability to select our own "earth" texture. That would be a really nice addition.

Wow - this has instantly become my favourite screen saver. Just fantastic. The only disappointment is the lack of sound on my Quicksilver 933 PPC machine. Otherwise my Radeon 9600/256 is lapping this right up!

When trying to unpack the .gz it gives an error, "Error 1 - Operation not permitted"

Right-click on the link and choose "Save as..." The developer's ISP does not appear to have correctly set metatag data for the filetype so you'll get a page full of gibberish. Alternatively, you could just let it all load and then save the document as-is (yes, this works, too). :P

Gotta tell ya, and this is coming from someone who actually shoots fireworks shows, this is one awesome screensaver. Currently have it set for 20 shells. Excellent use of 3-dimensional space. Lots of different kinds of shells. Complete customization of environment (moon, stars, ambient light, clouds). Love the details: lens flares, smoke trails, wind speed, flying under the shells as they explode (it really does look like that). No kaboom sound, it would be a nice option for us non-Intel users if it could be added at some point, but then I'd NEVER get any work done. Runs beautifully on my dual 27.Ghz G5 with an Apple 23" monitor (duh!) Looking forward to installing it on my 1Ghz Powerbook. Well done all around. Definitely my favorite screensaver.
