Reunion overview

Reunion helps you to document, store, and display information about your family -- your ancestors, descendants, cousins, etc. It records names, dates, places, facts, plenty of notes, sources of information, pictures, sounds, and videos. It shows family relationships in an elegant, graphic form -- people and families are linked in an easy-to-understand fashion.

Reunion makes it easy to publish your family tree information -- even if you want to share it on the Web. You can automatically create common genealogy reports, charts, and forms, as well as birthday calendars, mailing lists, questionnaires, indexes, books and other lists. Reunion even calculates relationships, ages, life expectancies, and statistics. Reunion also creates large, high-resolution, graphic charts allowing complete on-screen editing of boxes, lines, fonts, and colors. Wall charts are one of its specialties.

Limitations of the demo version:

  • Only 50 people can be entered in a family file.
  • Import/Export is disabled.
  • Charts and slideshows can't be saved.
  • Printed output will be watermarked.

What’s new in version 13.0

Updated on Mar 07 2023

Note: Version 13 is a paid upgrade from previous versions.

  • Fixed a problem with the 'Map all places for this person' feature.
  • Family Group and Person Sheets - fixed a problem where flags would sometimes not be reported correctly.
  • GEDCOM Export - fixed a problem when excluding certain family fields.
  • Minor bug fixes.

By far the best Genealogy app for Mac. Solid and keeps up to date (Silicon-native) , with no unnecessary nonsense. Supports IOS app which auto-updates via iCloud Like all genealogy/Family Tree apps, it is overpriced and has a slightly naff/old-fashioned interface. That having been said, this is best of the bunch even on these terms: price and interface

I have been a loyal customer of Reunion longer than I can remember. Unfortunately, our relationship goes only one way. Reunion 13 is another paid upgrade, seriously? The "new features" listed in version 13 are all bug fixes. The software company should not charge for fixing what was wrong with the current version. Not good to do that...

I'm looking for a simple application to create genealogy tables of fictional characters from mythology and novels for a book and handouts in my literature class. Mythological characters may sometimes have more than one father and one mother. I also need the tree to show the character's function, for example 'war good', 'goddess of love', etc. and the name of their abode (if applicable.) Ideally, the app should be able to incorporate new genealogies as I move along. I'm thinking about mythology here, first and foremost. Suppose I need a handout for Antigone in my literature class. Three or four generations would suffice for the class. But then later, I might want to extend the tree to see all the ancestors of Antigone to the beginning of the world (= 9 generations.) Any suggestions?

Reunion worked great until that last security patch fried my entire laptop, taking not just the database and disabling the Finder, but all my 25 years worth of research documents, family photos, my late husband's music and all the other data on my Mac. I will never buy this program again, and I deeply regret the hundreds of dollars I've spent since I became a customer many years ago. My backup copy is useless. So, I get to start from scratch - on my brand new affordable Dell, with brand new software I have yet to buy. Thanks for nothing.

Man, what did they do? I can't stand the new interface. It's like they went backwards. Looks like something from Mac Classic days. They could not have ruined Reunion any more than they did. I only went to it since I'd upgraded the OS and my Reunion 9 was 32 bit. Horrible!

I've been a user of Reunion since around version 7. Been looking at others swell, but always returned to reunion. Now I have purchased Reunion 11, and will probably leave the Reunion platform and use Mac family Tree. Reason: Reunion is starting to feel "old" compared to the other programs, and my swedish localization stopped working after their update to version 11.0.4. I posted a question in the support forum, but instead of answerring they deleted the thread. which is an innovative if not constructive way to deal with customer complaints. I like the reports in Reunion, and also the way I enter info. But I feel Reunion is dropping behind the competition, and with a "support" that treats paying customers as something annoying - well I just don't feel like staying with them.. I am going to try Mac Family Tree. Others have recommended Family Tree maker. Others still recommend a web-based solution. Also there are a few things in Mac Family Tree that I feel is much better than in Reunion. Reunion feels old. MFT gives me the option to see the relationship with me and anyone in my ancestry file in a diagram. That way I found out that my wife and I have a common link in the 17th century. Reunion only shows direct lines, and only in a text-based list. I would never have found that link that way. Also MFT has a map that shows where ALL people in my file have lived. Which is interesting for me, since in Sweden people migrated within the nations border a lot in the 19th century. On the other hand, the map tat Reunion shows for me and the way I have moved is so far better than the one in MFT. Conclusion: with a less hostile support I might have stayed with Reunion. But I guess after understanding the MFT learning curve I will not miss Reunion.

For me, the most significant update from 10 is the Island feature. There are others, but most seem to be minor enhancements of a great program. So is the $50 to upgrade PLUS another $8 for the iPad app (the old one previously purchased is no longer supported, and you can't update to the new one) really worth it? $58 for upgrading?

This application is really good, and best of all, unlike MacFamilyTree, this developer didn't abandon all of their non-Mac App Store(MAS) customers. You can actually get this direct and through normal channels. MFT abandoned many customers when they went MAS only. The only bad thing is the upgrade is rather pricy. It would be fair around $25 for existing customers. $50 is way too high!

Odd that the MacUpdate notice for 10.0.4 is just now (1/19/13) coming out when 10.0.4 was released 3 months ago (9/17/12). That said, this is a terrific app that I've used for many years, and would be lost without it. However, there is one bug (crashes on some copy/paste actions) that's driving me crazy!

I have used Reunion from version 4.0 (Apple IIe days). The 9.0 version is a Mac only application which I truly enjoy. Most of your questions can be answered at: http://www.leisterpro.com/ If you have specific questions there is a technical support link which has always been responsive. It is a solid piece of software for which so far I have never lost data. My only disappointment is the "dual entry" which is required if you are using Ancestry.com. This issue cannot be corrected because Ancestry does not open its software doors to competing vendors. I also have the iPhone version which is equally stable and plan to buy the iPad ver. shortly.

Twice as expensive as the competition, and a demo so crippled that you can't make any kind of informed decision. I can't throw that much money at a genealogy app without even knowing how it handles a GEDCOM import. The automatic source feature only works for adding new persons' names - so when you are entering a bunch of details from a single source, you have to select it again for every fact. iFamily handles this much better, allowing you to set an active source and have all entries default to it. The Reunion set up is probably good for people who like to pick a person then add each detail for them, but if your workflow is to start with a source and then add each detail for all the people it references, Reunion would get very tedious.

A very good app. Native OS X, very stable, many features and simple to use. (I love the brushed metal interface and will miss it in Leopard.) Some remarks: - I'm quite sure you will sell a lot more if you reduce your price to MFT+$20 - the icon of the app itself is soooo ugly (which is strange since all the icons within the app are beautiful) Feature request: - How about some Google Earth integration? A great feature included in MFT since its last update.
