Postbox

No update in one year! This is quite alarming. 🙁 The last blog post is from September 25th, 2023...

In my opinion, Postbox is the best all around email client. It's stable, handles all my various accounts perfectly. But where it really shines is customer support! I had a minor issue with my license and they fixed it immediately! I'm so used to companies dragging their feet when it comes to support so this was a welcomed change of pace. There's a 30 day free trial, I recommend both Mac OS and Windows users to give it a shot, I doubt you'll regret it.

How about a language interface to the translate in the Mac OS, I am going back to Mac OS Mail for this one reason alone, I work in an environment wear translation is often necessary. And all you have to do is use the MAC OS basic translate feature on the right click. Lost a long time user over this one issue. your worth nothing at this point in time.

I'm now using Thunderbird, on which Postbox is based. Thunderbird runs natively on Apple's ARM computers and now has what they call a card interface - meaning the message list looks like the one in Postbox rather than how it used to look. I really don't understand why Postbox is dragging its feet on this one. I can only assume they are hanging on and not bothered about their product. Complacency leads to demise.

Does anybody know is there a way of changing the settings in Postbox whereby I can shorten the senders' addresses in the From email column? I don't want to see eBay ≤ebay.co.uk≥, I just want to see the name eBay (or whatever company)? Thanks.

Were patiently waiting for an Apple Silicon upgrade and they update it with a new emoji set? SMH!

I have purchased the PC version and it rarely sees an update nowadays - it isn't even available in 64Bit yet! So, I doubt to see an Apple Silicon version upon the horizon for a long time, or ever

Still no update for Apple silicon... Postbox is running with Rosetta but it is constantly eating 20% CPU und battery is melting like ice cream in the sun. Don't buy it if you ever plan to use it with a mobile device and ARM processor. They still don't even answer to any support questions.

Supports new authentication on old systems. Essential now that the big mail providers are requiring this.

Postbox is constantly eating 20% of the CPU on a M1 Max even when idleing in the background. My support inquiry never got an answer. After years of happy usage this is a show stopper for me. I gave up hoping for an Apple Silicon version and can not recommend this apparently abandoned ship.

It is very difficult to understand this company's policy: what is the point of refusing to say whether a native ARM version of PostBox will ever be written? Otherwise, it is a nice programme, with useful UI. The search facilities should be improved and made easier to use.

I adopted Postbox for its cross-platform consistency while working in Windows, Linux, and Mac OS, and I like the way it works. Now that I am working solely on a Silicon Macbook, I'm concerned about the future. Having bought a lifetime license, I realize the company has no incentive to update the macOS app, as it won't bring them any more revenue from users like me. Given that the app seems to be based on Thunderbird (a code base that is a little long in the tooth), updating for Silicon is probably going to mean a complete rewrite from scratch. I would support a fundraiser for such an update and a subscription license for a fresh version of Postbox. The benefits of doing this would be felt by Windows and Linux users as well, of course. But if that revolution doesn't happen, I'm afraid the future of Postbox will be to just run in buggy and inefficient emulation over the next few OS releases, until Rosetta is phased out, when it will no longer run at all. That would be a shame, because I haven't seen any other email client (on any platform) that I like as well as this one.

DO NOT BUY EVEN IF YOU HAVE AN INTEL MAC! One day you'll have an Apple Silicon Mac, and then the problems starts. It's not worth the money anymore without an native client. It's laggy, crashes a lot, eats lots of GB of ram when running through Rosetta. Just head over to Thunderbird, its basically the same without the the nice UI BUT with calendar and Addons or spend the money to another developer who has released a native app.

The company refuses to say if it is developing a native ARM version for what is effectively Apple's complete Mac product line. Postbox has no native version for any Mac currently on sale so we have to use an Intel version in emulation mode which uses 5x the RAM of other mail clients. I have repeated emailed Postbox Inc. and all they say is that they will not discuss their development roadmap. Poor show Postbox.

Brilliant design. I hope they continue to refine Postbox to reach its full potential.

STILL no Apple Silicon version. The company is really dragging its heels over this - refusing even to comment on the issue. I don't understand the problem. eMClient has has an ARM version for ages, as have pretty much all the other Mac email clients - including Thunderbird on which Postbox is based. I can only assume the company isn't doing very well given they are effectively not developing for the current version of macOS.

Provides useful features that Apple Mail doesn’t. The main reason I switched is because Mail’s search function was proving to be utterly useless – Postbox’s actually works. Postbox also provides some folders you’d expect to exist, like a junk folder that shows your junk from all accounts – Mail removed this and now you have to creat a smart folder for it. Its file attachments are also much better, showing them all at the bottom or allowing an image to be placed inline or as an attachment. I will stick with Postbox but there are several annoyances I have come across so far: The new email alert doesn’t provide any functions e.g. to delete an email. Doesn't support some standard macOS features you’d expect: keyboard shortcuts can’t be changed (they show up as changed in the menus but don’t work). The Control-T shortcut (swap two characters around) doesn’t work (though other things do, e.g. I have a service to convert to capitals with Cmd-Shift-U) and alt-arrow down/up moves line by line, not paragraph by paragraph. When you paste in a screenshot, it’s massive and impossible to get it the correct size without it going blurry. If you’re sending an email to a group (as created in the Contacts app), you can’t see who is in the group nor expand it to remove an address. The print settings are good but there is no preview.

A lot more flexible than other mail clients for power users with all sorts of inboxes such as IMAP, Maildir, etc. Compared to Thunderbird, has great keyboard shortcuts (e.g., to quickly move to a folder) that work a bit like Gmail's.

A good replacement for Apple Mail. Faster, more features without needing to install plug-ins.

Globally a very good emailer for mac. The only which can be compared to the late Eudora. The global interface is friendly. However, bug fixing is deficient. Filters do not apply consecutively. Thousand of messages sometimes get duplicated, a real pain.
