I've used Perfect Diet Tracker for years and loved it. However, it broke under Sonoma. It quits immediately when I try to do anything. I hope the problem gets fixed quickly.

I've used it religiously for three years and it works well. They keep making the data base bigger, but it would be more beneficial to clean up the data base instead of continually adding to it. Searches for specific foods can turn up items totally unrelated to what you're searching for. Many people use Stouffer's Lean Cuisine meals, but the naming of each product is erratic. If I look for one of their pizzas, I'm never sure if it's under Stouffer's, under Lean Cuisine, or under the specific pizza name.

I checked out most every current "diet tracking" prorgam I could find and worked with a few to see how easy or hard they handled. The prettiest software in the world doesn't do you any good if you are not motivated to come back and use it. Perfect Diet Tracker is easy, 95% of everything I eat is already in its database -- it is not difficult to add others. What you typically eat will come up at the top of your favorite list -- saves bunches of time looking for your foods -- they are fast and easy to add. Everything seems to be well thought out and simple as it can be made but you can drill down to more if you need to. I did have occasion to find a small glitch early on that I documented and sent to them. They responded back fast, worked to resolve it, and issued an update. I happened to have bought mine with the Mac App Store -- so they were kind enough to let me use non app version while it went thru the approval time warp at Apple. They followed up -- not so usual these days when everyone is so busy. So am I still using. Did it affect my life. Yes, and yes. It caused me to start noticing what calories came with eating what -- and just by the routine you develop of daily (for me mornings) entering your food diary, putting in your BP, making some notes of what may have affected a gain or loss -- these build good relationships between you and you food and activities and the software is most helpful to get you in the habit with positive experiences to reinforce. I got serious when I found this program and started being accountable. From June 2011 until now I have lost over 43 pounds. I can look at the history in the software and see the dips and curves and straight lines and know what period that was "when I was really trying", "when the holiday came and we let ourselves gain a couple of pounds" , that sort of thing. But for the first time I can really relate to what types and how much food will cause what consequences. I have learned with the help of the software to get back control. Worth every penny. Very good customer support from people who care. Frequent updates. Stable.

I downloaded trial versions of several programs of this genre. After checking them out, I decided to try working with Perfect Diet Tracker and Calories simultaneously as they both seemed to meet my needs. I've used a similar program available through the gym I used to belong to, so I knew what worked for me. Perfect Diet Tracker left Calories in the dust for ease of use, particularly the food list -- MUCH more comprehensive! A lot of these programs are heavy on the packaged foods. We eat a whole foods diet, most organic. Most of the things we eat were already in the database (in addition to the packaged stuff). It's easy to add things to the database as well. I posted a question on Saturday to the developer's website and had an answer on Sunday. GREAT support! My question had to do with using a recipe within another recipe -- no problem! It would be nice if the recipe/group feature allowed you to enter notes so this could be used to store your recipes as well as their nutritional information, but that's not a big deal. Tracking exercise and results is easy and simple to customize. An excellent program of this type!

Using this software helped me lose 30 pounds. The database needs some data cleansing effort (search results are erratic), but otherwise a great tool to help you lose weight.

I have once again gone back to this product, but it still retains its most significant flaw. The food database is ridiculous. It gives you many foods that have nothing to do with your entry and it does not find foods even though your clearly state what you are looking for. The manufacturer says "most people" prefer to create their own database, but that simply dodges the issue. Why is the existing database so flawed? Why after so many years have they not been able to fix this?

Got as far as the license agreement. Read it. Clicked decline. Among the gems in there is a statement that one cannot reference the company/author directly or indirectly to any third party without prior permission. This would mean that one can't write a negative review, or mention it on a personal blog. If that's not what the authors meant, then they shouldn't have put in such a clause. Such a condition in a license is a complete deal breaker.

Figured it was time to write a review. I've used this software for a while and version 3 has been out since last April. The interface is easy to use. The database of food is very large. It is easy to add your own items. You can track weight and many other measurements. You can track your exercise and add custom exercises. The breakdown you get is nice. It helps you set attainable goals for weight loss... and... It lets you set your own macro nutrient ratios. The database is stored in sqlite3 and they support dropbox if you want to sync between your desktop and laptop or such. The program runs nice reports and gives you the ability to dump data to CSV if you wanted your own external stats. The program is also cross platform and can run on windows and linux. I like that fact it can support linux since I've been using linux for 15+ years. However, I only run it on the mac.. I just like to know I have that option. Now.. the real gem of this program is one very big thing. The support team. I haven't have very many issues with the program, but I have reported 2 issues (bugs). One bug I reported on 31Dec2009.. They emailed the same day asking for some additional info. They had a fix on 01Jan2010... Yes.. they were working and fixing it on Jan 1st. I was pretty happy with that. Then I found another small issue with reporting so I sent a support request. They responded back quickly and i gave them the info they wanted. It was fixed in about 10 hours. Anyway.. with the low cost of the software versus getting that kind of support it seems to be well worth it. Bug #1 was fixed with version 3.3.0.1 and the #2 with 3.3.0.2. Now.. I did give it a 4/5 on Features because I see some things that would be nice to have: 1. Meals: the ability to set meal times (so you know when you ate and such). 2. (Probably relies on #1 in part) Add a meal alert to the calendar.. just a quick way to put the scheduled meal in your calendar. Then you can get alerted a bit before. I code and can get pretty in-depth on my work so this would be nice and I would rather have it in this program and have it feed iCal or such. 3. Allow the report to toggle the "Perfect Diet Tracker - http://www.perfect-diet-tracker.com/" footer that is put on each page. I know where the product is from and I don't really need it in the pdf I made or on a printout. 4. Can there be an option on date format on the exported file name? (m-d-y is not so hot).. so January 7th, 2010 is 1-7-10 and is ambiguous. 5. Add a recipe wizard. See http://www.nutritiondata.com/mynd/myrecipes/welcome?returnto=/mynd/myrecipes for details of what I mean. Would rather use the software than subscribe to that site/service (or similar sites). Keep up the great product and equally important your very friendly and fast support.

I got version 2.3.6 in February at a discounted price; now I'm being asked to pony up $49.95 for the upgrade to v. 3.0. After reviewing the list of changes, that is way too much. But by the time I find out the price, the new version has deleted the first, so now I'm screwed.

I bought this software on 28Jan2009. The software is great. However... I see that version 3.0 is out and now they want me to pay an upgrade fee. I have had the product for 68 days... and i don't get a free upgrade? They had the 3.0 beta when i bought. Doesn't make sense. I'm not paying another $18 for something I should get in this time frame.. it is less than 90 days. They made their cutoff 01Mar2009 it seems. I think they need to rethink it.

This is quite a good program. It does what it says it does, namely track the foods and drinks you consume every day that have calories in them. In doing this, it sheds lights on what you are eating and in what ratios. It sheds light on the situation and that helps you manage your weight. This program has an extensive and excellent database with most foods you'll run into listed in it. This includes frozen entrees from most major companies as well as some restaurant food. However, you can always add your own food products to its database and record your use of them. The UI is not perfect although it is more than passable. For example, to delete an exercise line-item, you have to click the delete key, you can't just hit backspace as or delete as you would with most programs. You should be able to copy-and-paste items between days -- it's annoying that you can't, although the vendor would probably suggest using the "create group" feature. That's right, you can create a group of foods and name it something, like "chicken sandwich with cheese and wheat bread." Groups can't contain just one item, though, so I'd really still like to have copy-and-paste. Speaking only for myself, I find this product is most useful if I have a computer in my kitchen that stays there all the time. (Or if not the kitchen, then wherever you do your eating.) That way I can enter the food as soon as I eat it, know exactly where I am for the day, and if I make a decision that costs me, I have to make that as a conscious choice right then and there rather than kind of blundering along not really knowing how much I've eaten. This ties the decision and the consequence closely together in time, which in my own case has been very helpful. Again, I paid for this product, I think it's very much worth it, and I give it an A+.

This is great program for those who are serious about watching their diet, learning about their diet, and making changes based upon hat they learn. I've been doing this forever manually by writing down things that I eat in a notebook and then trying to look up (or guess) how many calories, nutritional value etc etc... It never works as I never get all of the information entered accurately. The database provided with this program is phenomenal. So far, I have found everything I eat daily, by brand name! All of the nutritional info is automatically entered and a quick perusal of what one puts into one's mouth each day highlights where you can save unwanted calories. This is a very useful tool and by far the best method I have found to quickly and effectively track one's diet - this is a data intensive task to do correctly and this program makes it very simple.
