OnyX overview
OnyX is a multifunction utility that you can use to verify the startup disk and the structure of its system files, to run miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning tasks, to configure parameters in the Finder, Dock, Safari, and some of Apple's applications, to delete caches, to remove certain problematic folders and files, to rebuild various databases and indexes, and more.

How to install Onyx on Mac
- Each version of macOS has a specific version of Onyx. Trying to use a non-compatible version with the wrong version of Onyx will result in the application not working correctly.
- Download the Onyx application version for your version of macOS.
- Look in your Downloads folder and locate the downloaded installation file, then run it by double clicking on it.
- Run through the installation steps.
- The application is now installed.

How to clean Mac with Onyx
- Open the Onyx app by clicking on the installed Onyx icon.
- Once open, click on the Maintenance tab.
- Here you will be shown a list of terms under 3 categories: Rebuilding, Cleaning, Misc. options.
- Cleaning options are available to clean System, Applications, Internet and Log messages and reports.
- Select the items you want to clean, then click on ‘Run Tasks’.
How to use Onyx to make Mac faster
- Open the Onyx app by clicking on the installed Onyx icon.
- Once open, click on the Maintenance tab.
- Go to the Cleaning section and the Misc. options sections and select the appropriate options.
- Click on Run Tasks and allow the application to clear all the cache and log files that are slowing your Mac down.
- Allow the Tasks to finish and restart your Mac.
How to uninstall Onyx from Mac
- Make sure that you have closed Onyx completely.
- Click on the Finder in your Dock.
- Click on Applications in the Sidebar and find Onyx.
- Right click on Onyx and then select Move to Trash.
- Navigate to the Trash icon, right click on it and select Empty Trash.
- Onyx has now been uninstalled from your system.

I had to reload the program and I lost the option to delete my imessages and empty my trash. the dashboard is completely different from what I previously had. I am using version 4.5.7.

Anyone know if there is a setting in the Ventura version of Onyx to STOP the system from creating 'versions' of a file? I have a 4Gb CAD file I'm working on that insist on Spinning beach ball saving (allegedly in the background) apx every 5 minutes and takes it 20 seconds to do, its super annoying slow down every few minutes. Check the file and the 'last saved' date keeps updating as it does it. If Drop box is running the problem test worse as it uploads each time, plus then downloads on all my other machines, its a royal P.I.T.A. ?

I've been running OnyX for years and just ran the Ventura version on my M1 MBA. It ran for about 1/2 and stalled when rebuilding my Spotlight index. I needed to force quit and prayed nothing was messed up. So far, everything seems fine. So there are issues with this version.

My Mac was very laggy, especially when clicking on links to open in other apps. With some trepidation, I ran the maintenance schedule with default boxes checked. Got the spinning wheel of death after re-start. Left it a long time to do its stuff. Forced a restart and my Mac has been running *miles* better ever since.
In short, it has worked brilliantly, but gave a nerve-wracking journey. I wouldn't have risked it if I hadn't done extensive back-ups on CCC & Time Machine.

Runs only on OSX 12.x. There are many Mac users who still use version 11 or 10. This is not user friendly.

onyx 4.1.0 tells me that the startup drive needs to be repaired . disk utility says there is nothing wrong . i think a update is needed . I have been using onyx for years with no issue , this is my first comment .
