NotePlan is designed to make your task planning more productive. It solves problems like bloated, ever-growing to-do lists.

Modern Writing - Enjoy a full writing area with Markdown and injected flavour for productivity.
Calendar Notes - A calendar shows you where the action is. Jump right into a day to manage it by writing notes into each day.

Features

Full, modern writing tool included for every day of a month - NotePlan will give you the convenience of a modern writing editor supporting markdown. Add formatting to your task lists and notes to keep it better organized.
Monthly calendar overview with color-coded daily note content - See a summary of your notes and color coded lists in a monthly calendar view. Use keyboard shortcuts to navigate and quickly jump into a day to review or edit it. The calendar will also show you, if you missed out on some tasks, so nothing important slips from your mind.
Schedule tasks to stay organized - If you couldn't finish a task, don't leave it unmanaged on the list. Re-schedule it to another day. Or, if you manage a backlog, schedule a todo directly from there onto your calendar.
Backlogs, drafts, bug lists or just text notes, apart from the calendar - Some information is not related to a day and should be kept separated from the calendar. Like bug lists or project backlogs. They can be managed in NotePlan and scheduled directly into the calendar, when required. Notes can be organized by tagging them. In the overview you can filter your notes by tags.
Your notes are not saved on our servers. You will find them safe and sound in your iCloud Drive.
Integrations to useful apps like iCalender, Reminders, and more are available.

Improvements

Command Bar Navigation: Hit CMD+Return on folders in the command bar to reveal them in the sidebar instead of opening in the command bar.
Weekly References: Quotes will show up now in the weekly references view at the top of calendar notes. Use them to add your thoughts on your goals and weekly tasks.
Editor Clarity: Inactive editors in split view will now show a faded title on the top left to indicate they are not active.
Date Detection: Typing dates? Our command bar now recognizes ISO formats automatically.

Fixes

Synced Lines and folded text: If you maintained synced lines inside the same note and some were folded "away", they stopped syncing. This is fixed now.
System Stability: Fixed various system hangs and crashes.
UI Consistency: "Event List" in the right sidebar will now remember to show up after a restart, and auto-complete forms will close properly when you expect them to (when typing >today).
Time Accuracy: Improved detection of time blocks (12-1pm for example), fixed timezone mix-ups (when traveling), and more.
Filter Fixes: From synced lines showing up correctly to ensuring events display right even with smaller fonts, as well as switching between views. Also, an empty monthly note showed up when the yearly note was part of the results.
Interface Enhancements: Fixed the gray overlay in plugin settings and made sure filter selections work smoothly.
Sync: Fixed creation date was reset after receiving a synced file

Plugin API

Logging: We've cut down on excessive logging from plugins and enhanced logs for HTML views.
CommandBar: Added a third "searchText" parameter to showOptions and showInputs, so you can supply a default value.

It doesn't look like MacUpdate has been keeping this app up to date. It's now up to version 3.8 and is still actively developed. Version 3 is a big upgrade (in terms of functionality and price, now being a subscription), but I couldn't live without it.

With the new 'markdown live rendering' (i.e. you see rich text, not markdown even though that's what it's using), this great task management app has become even more user-friendly. The same markdown rendering is also now live on the iPhone/iPad apps as well.

I would have to say this is the best Task Manager app I’ve ever used (and yes I said the same thing about Things when it was still shiny and new after the upgrade to version 3). This works like a combination of TaskPaper (outline your tasks in plain text) and Things (get to see your Calendar events and todos in the same space as well as having a dedicated page for Today). I’ve only been using it for a few days but have already bought the iOS app and see myself buying the Mac app once the demo is over.

I've had NotePlan for my Mac and iPhone since the betas. I use it in conjunction with Things 3. The beauty of NotePlan for me is that it allows me to break down tasks for projects quite easily, and then work through them on a calendar-ToDo list. I could do this with Things or OmniFocus, but I like how NotePlan allows me to delineate my tasks within a project without over crowding a GTD program like Things. I may not need both, but I am more productive using them together. One more thing: the developer is great. He seems to be genuinely interested in user input, and her responds to queries and suggestions quickly and thoroughly.
