NewsLife overview

NewsLife is a super-easy-to-use RSS news aggregator.

NewsLife's simple interface, composed of three panes, is intuitive and easy to use. The source list lets you organize your feeds how ever you want. The content area presents each article to you complete with thumbnails, quick navigation links and more. The side bar contains useful features like a search field, quick view buttons, filtering controls and the news bin, which acts as a scrapbook for any articles you have dragged into it. You can also choose to quickly email these items, Digg them, post them to your weblog editor or have them read aloud by your Mac.

I like this reader, bought it today. It works very well. However, some parts of the UI aren't that nice. The "+" button, "Back" button, "trash" button etc shouldn't be in the style they're in as they don't fit the UI at all. Maybe consider making their fill transparent with a light outline. Just my two cents.

This app has had no update in over a year now. It freezes, crashes and is a waste of money. I wish I could get a refund for this. My recommendation is skip this developer and any of his applications.

This is a really nice RSS reader. When I monitored hundreds of feeds NetNewsWire was the best. Now that I've trimmed down to a few dozen I want something lighter. What it does best is give me a broad overview of my feeds. This saves time. The inline summaries are well-designed and compact (compare with Vienna where each article in unified mode is huge). I can see article lists without using disclosure triangles (ahem, endo) and articles are grouped by feed, unlike those readers that try to look like e-mail programs. Its closest competitor would be NewsFire. If you like NewsFire take a look at NewsLife and see what you think. I've had two problems: Podcast enclosures won't download and it won't refresh feeds when I wake my computer. Given this is a 1.0 product that's not too bad.

Its a little too feature-free for $20. I like to be able to sort my subscriptions, say by number of unread articles, or by name. Maybe wait for version 2.

Yes I agree $20 seems steep. Compared to Vienna which is free and works pretty well.

Nice- reminds me of Democracy. I think $20 is a bit much for this emerging market. It doesn't fit in my shareware budget- still if you like it consider the purchase if only to support the developer. On the plus side it woks pretty well and seems stable (G5 iMac). -Edified
