MailServe overview

MailServe helps you set up a fully functional mail server on Mac OS X that can:

send outgoing mail
receive incoming mail
fetch mail from an ISP mail server
filter out spam
store all these mail on the server & and allow them to be read them from any mail client
allow mail to be organized into folders and sub-folders
authenticate users before they are allowed to send mail through the server
encrypt mail coming in and out of the server using SSL (including inserting Intermediate CA certs)

MailServe organizes each of these tasks-from the simple to the complex-into discrete panels in its user interface. This allows the user to turn the mail services on one-by-one, and turn them off individually when they're not needed.

MailServe does a lot of complicated configuring of your server beneath its Mac-like user interface. It does this in a non-invasive manner, touching as little as possible of the original system files so as to leave your system in its pristine state. And you can remove all the files installed by the MailServe, at one go, using the De-Install option in MailServe's Help menu.

Le plus simple serveur de mail reception et envoie , qui soit sur le macintosh , je recommande ce produit pour tout ceux qui ne veulent pas passer trois jours a configurer postfix et dovecot , ce produit marche trés bien. et vaut ses 25 dollars

Installation was a charme. Runs fast and stable on my "server" (old Mac mini with SSD:-). The fetch mail implementation is great (Apple Server has none at all). Had one question before buying that was answered very quickly. An update to the next version for just about 20 $ is, in my opinion, very OK.

MailServe provides an excellent interface for configuring mail services in OS X - and it certainly does a better job at it than Apple's own Mavericks Server. Related settings are logically grouped and easily accessible, the guides are easy to follow, and several advanced features - i.e., aliases, virtual domains, etc. - are quite easy to setup. It also provides 'spam training' functionality out-of-the-box - something which in Mavericks Serve is only available with third-party add-ons. Overall, an excellent product, and one of the VERY FEW cheap email server solutions available for OS X. My only suggestion to the developer, is that he consider his pricing and upgrade policy, as this seems to be the biggest area of complain from most users. While $20 is not a lot to ask for a full-featured mail server (compare this pricing with Kerio or Communigate), the fact that Apple priced Mavericks Server at that price point means that inevitable comparisons will ensue - and users will feel 'short-changed'.

This is a complete rip-off! The app itself is not bad, but it won't work after a major system update. If you buy MailServe for 10.7 you will have to buy again the very same app for 10.8 without any additional features. Just buy it again for a new system. I already bought it twice, won't buy it again. In mail software, it is important to provide security updates regularly as the core software releases new fixes. This has not happened in the past year or two, despite my observing at least one CVE against the underlying software. Virtual folders never could be set up correctly, even inserting stock code in the custom directives section straight from the dovecot manuals. I contacted the author once, after over a month of waiting for a response, gave up. While it was good software at the time, I find myself wishing I could find a better solution that used more current dovecot.

Bought this to replace an old OSX server that was running only to SMTP relay. v 3.04 didn't have the right TLS options. Emailed Bernard who was super responsive, and even built me a new version, 3.06, which works great! My only tiny tiny suggestion is that the Auth and TLS options are not 100% clear.

A great piece of software, from a true gentleman of a developer. I recently decided to try to run my own web and email servers (as well as file sharing, etc) of an older MacMini, and -- in the process of looking for true Mac-like software to help me in my crazy plan -- I came across this. However, my ignorance of these matters and lack of experience almost caused me to give up on the email server part. However, the developer was kind enough to explain some of the functionality of mail servers and of his software in a relatively lengthy email exchange, and things are up and running smoothly now! If you're relatively new (as I am) to setting up your own mail server behind a router at home or at the office, then make sure to check out the handful of truly helpful write-ups he has on his website: "OS X and Broadband and the Airport Base Station", "Send Email Anywhere", and other very helpful writings that helped me configure my system safely and get it up and running. Thanks, Bernard!

Excellent software and the author answers technical queries. Moved from Postfix Enabler in Sept. after asking "should I wait until there was a Leopard version". No answer so bought it anyway. Upgraded to Leopard in Nov. Tiger version doesn't work and there is no upgrade for recent purchasers. Hence value rating. apad

"...totally buzzword compliant mail server"? Um, is that a new mail protocol in Leopard? Since when where POP, SMTP, IMAP or whatever considered "buzzwords"? Sorry, but that has to be the dumbest description for an application that I've ever heard.

Very nice application. Though it is true that with a certain knowledge of the Terminal you could setup Postfix yourself, this applciation offers a very convenient front-end to activate and control everything from a clear and easy to use interface. Well worth the investment IMVHO. Disclaimer: I liked it enough to decide to devote some time participating in the localization of the app in French - though I have no other personnal interest in it.

Have been a registered user for several months with nothing but good results. Works as advertised, sets up in minutes, it is a solid piece of software, developer is responsive, updates come regularly, price is unbeatable. Enough said.
