Leech overview
Leech gives you complete control over your downloads and full browser integration. You can queue, pause and resume downloads, download from password-protected servers and store your passwords in your system-wide, secure keychain. And you won't have to worry about downloads that were disrupted by a crashing browser ever again.
Sure, your browser can download. But does it let you easily accelerate downloads, limit bandwidth, download on a schedule, or execute rules to sort incoming downloaded files? Doubt it. And clearly, you're not going to be able to quit that RAM-consuming monster of a browser until all your downloads are done.

Good workflow, stability, speed and easiness. Perfect app.
I don't know anything about all the old drama written below, I don't care, this program just works for me. Especially the feature to limit to certain number of downloads per host and/or in total is gold, because I don't want to be to hard on some hosts. I just want to quickly (copy/paste :)) enter a 2do list and don't look back until it has finished.

works great.. i just wish it could work without using the context menu in chrome. And supported segmented downloads for greater speed too.

Chrome, Opera and iCab are not supported and I don't think this up is being developed anymore since 2 years. I still use it and love it but the missing support for Chrome etc. lets me look for other software periodically

This, like a few other downloading apps still on offer and even new ones just coming out, is utterly useless if it doesn't include multi-threaded downloading. Why would I add more complexity to my downloading if it offers no speed enhancement? I don't get it, and I won't get it.

please add an option to have leech update the "date modified" timestamp of a downloaded file to the current date/time. i hate having to go look for a file with an old timestamp when the save directory is sorted by modified date. thanks.

I'd like to say I've tried this software and loved it. However, after reading all the drama and customer service attitude I'll steer clear. You lost all your customer data (shameful), the product gets abandoned for a period of time, and then you come along asking for upgrade fees? Sorry I want software that solves problems and doesn't create drama in my life.

Even though there seem to have been some changes within the staff of ManyTricks, I've pretty much had it with any kind of company or app respectively that involves Peter Maurer...! Don't get me wrong though -- Peter Maurer has lots of talent when it comes to designing good-looking and useful Mac apps ... but he also has the habit of starting promising projects and then abandoning them after a short period of time...! :(
'Leech' is just one of several examples over the last few years...

I really liked this app when I used the trial version. For me though, the features it offers are basically the same as Speed Download except Speed Download accelerates downloads too. Leech is awesome but I just have to go with Speed Download.

Leech was released as version 1.0 on May the 7th 2008.
Version 1.1.4 was released two months later on June the 4th.
Then no updates till version 2.0 on March 31st 2010.
For the disappearing act - I suggest starting with a clean sheet.
Free updates should be handed out to everyone who
purchased a license - period.

Is this an April fool's joke on us registered users ?
I also feel a bit let down by 'Many Tricks' and especially Rob Griffiths whose idea it must have been to charge original registered users. Those same users who supported the app in the first place, only to be left high and dry when the developer went on a two year long hiatus. An upgrade price hike from version 1.1.4 to version 2 is pretty poor PR ( Even if it is only a $5 fee ) Should be a free upgrade for previous users, for the developers disappearing act.
Trust has to be earned.

This is a joke.
I paid for leech when it was 1.1.3 (see previous comment) and then after 1.1.4, support just disappears and now after a year, suddenly they drop 2.0 and expect people to buy it.
Oh great I can pay $5 to upgrade as a leech 1.x owner.
No thank you.
Owners of leech 1.x should be getting an automatic upgrade to 2.x after paying for an app that only worked for a few months.

Many Tricks is back online, with Rob Griffiths (of MacOSXHints fame) joining the company.
There have been updates, they have an ACTIVE blog now, and I definitely know they are actively working on cool new stuff as well as on more updates to their existing software.
