Flutter overview
Flutter enables the use of hand gestures to control music and videos via the built-in webcam in your computer. We hated using the keyboard and mouse for controlling music in the background or watching movies on our computers from a few feet away. So we decided to solve this problem..
It works with Spotify, iTunes, Rdio, MPlayerX (most recent version), Quicktime, VLC (more recent version), Ecoute, Keynote, YouTube, Netflix, Pandora, and Grooveshark.
Currently it only allows you to play, pause, and skip songs and videos but future gestures are planned.

It may be the future, but it is not my future. It works, but I find it slow to respond, and it seems that my hand has to be in a very exacting position in order for the camera and program to acknowledge it. As a gimmick, it's okay. As a functional addition to my repertoire, it's not helpful.

Flutter is an amazing app that really shows off how cool modern technology can be. It just sits in your menubar and works its magic. I can tell you that it works well for me, but sometimes it thinks that my face is my hand, triggering the music. Perhaps it could intelligently disable itself when it detects that someone is sitting right at their computer?
Anyway, it's a great app, it's free, and anyone who hasn't tried it is missing out on a lot of fun!

Works great with Spotify and seems to have a range up to about 5 or 6 feet. The website claims to work with other media players, but after some digging around it appears this version only works with iTunes and Spotify. Although I don't use iTunes often, I tested it and it worked great there as well. Excited to see this developed further.

Didn't work for me. Tried iTunes for music, QuickTime, VLC Player for movies- nothing doing. In the bin.
