DeliciousSafari overview

Note: DeliciousSafari is no longer under development.

DeliciousSafari lets you conveniently use your del.icio.us bookmarks directly from Safari.

With DeliciousSafari + Delicious.com (a free service) you can:

  • Easily keep your bookmarks synced between home and work.
  • Tag auto-completion and suggestions when posting bookmarks.
  • Apply multiple tags to a single bookmark. For example, if you tagged macupdate.com with "mac" and "software", then later on you could find macupdate.com under either the "mac" or "software" folder.
  • Find related bookmarks.
  • Organize your favorite tags for fast access.

With this plug-in and the menu it provides I love it. However, I hate it because it causes Safari to crash frequently. The Apple report it generates specifically identifies this plug-in. I have uninstalled it several times and installed the latest version with the same behavior, so I have given up totally on his most wanted plug-in. I am running the latest version of Mac OS 10.6.2

Good integration but it lacks some features: !important: no duplicate check. If you bookmark a page already bookmarked, delicioussafari doesn't warn you and post the bookmark again and again (Pukka warns you) No way to permanently check private post. You have to hit the checkmark every time (important. Pukka does the same) Selected text from the page bookmarked doesn't automatically fill the text field in the new bookmark panel (again Pukka fills that information for you automatically). Pro over Pukka: Integration No bias here cause i'm testing both for buying, so i'm considering my workflow and these two options i found, between all those present, the only viable solutions (apart for cocoalicius) ps. consider change icon in safari toolbar and make it more consistent with the UI.

OK, I think that after few revisions of this product, I can revisit my previous review. Since I posted my first comment here (called below "unfair") DeliciousSafari was in kind of beta-quality stage. Now it grows up, has much more features (including VERY NEAT tag suggestion support) and finally becomes stable. I think my current rating is much more relevant to actual state of this tool. Personally I am not ready yet to quit WebnoteHappy, but I will keep an eye on this one to see where it's going. To dev: great job!

I felt the need to write a mini-review as the product is stuck at an unfair 2 stars at the moment! It's the only del.icio.us plugin from within Safari and continues to evolve more features and greater stability at each release. I love it.

Thanks for such responsiveness to user feedback. This seems like a much more usable product now -- the cheque is in the mail. One additional feature that would be great is to either add an "add bookmark" button, or be able to override the safari bookmark button.

It would be nice addition to Safari when released for free or with source. Unfortunately it's a paid plugin, which basically duplicates poor solutions from other del.icio.us tools for Mac, do not introduce anything new (well, maybe except the fact being first one of it's kind to exist in form of plugin) and misses some basic functionality. There is no tag suggestions, no autocompletion and all your tags are displayed as a single flat list (which is insanely long in my case). There is also no way to filter out tags or search your bookmarks without getting on del.icio.us website. Short description: feature limited Pukka, which is available for Safari only. Definitely not worth $15 at this stage, get Pukka or Webnote Happy instead.
