Cinebench overview

Cinebench leverages the same powerful 3D engine found in the award-winning animation software Cinema 4D Release 20 to accurately evaluate CPU rendering performance capabilities across various systems and platforms.

Cinebench includes render tasks that test the performance of up to 16 multiprocessors on the same computer as well as software-only shading tests and OpenGL shading tests on huge numbers of animated polygons that will push any computer to its limits.

Cinebench R23 supports Apple’s ARM-powered silicon computing systems.
Cinebench R23 is now based on the latest Cinema 4D Release 23 code using updated compilers, and has a minimum runtime activated by default (previously hidden in preferences)
Cinebench R23 provides improved benchmark accuracy for current and next generation CPUs to test if a machine runs stable on a high CPU load, if the cooling solution of a desktop or notebook is sufficient for longer running tasks to deliver the full potential of the CPU, and if a machine is able to handle demanding real-life 3D tasks.
Cinebench R23 now has the option to directly test the single core performance without manually enabling the “Advanced benchmark” option. The “Advanced benchmark” allows users to set arbitrary minimum runtimes to stress test the hardware for even longer periods of time.
Because of code and compiler changes, Cinebench R23 score values are readjusted to a new range so they should not be compared to scores from previous versions of Cinebench

I was a fan of Cinebench_r15, which I can't seem to find a non-buggy version of. I guess this is the direction they're taking it: fewer options, limited benchmarks. Ah well. Progress, y'know.

Bletch. Doesn't run. Selecting "Preferences" sends it into zombie mode from whence it must be Force Quit. Screen artifacts persist throughout other open windows. Maybe it's just me (MacBookPro9,1; Mac OS X Mojave v10.14.4 (18E226)) but this is pretty useless.

Installing and running fine under OS 10.12.6 in December 2018 but you need to install from the manual download NOT the MacUpdate desktop app or it won't run (reports string error). Once running reported my BTO 12 Core 3GHz X675 tricked up Mac Pro tower fine including the 4GB AMD R9 GPU (a none standard Mac card). In multi-core the 2010 Mac Pro beats up several newer i5 and i7 systems :) #oldskool

This works well on all of my Macs. It is a great expansion to GeekBench (which only measures processor power). After all, it's free!

This application opens with a string of error messages about support files which cannot be found or opened, then crashes with a kernel access fatal error. Maxon support has not responded.

Cinebench's tests will also make your computer's graphics chip and processor chip very hot, so don't be surprised if you feel the bottom of a portable computer getting significantly hotter during the tests.

One odd thing about Cinebench's interface: the buttons in Cinebench's window appear to be grayed out, but they're clickable. The "Info" section that appears in the upper left corner, won't always show accurate info about your Mac. It sometimes gets the "GFX-Board", as it calls it, wrong--for instance, showing an iBook G4's ATI Radeon 9550 as a 9600; and showing OS 10.4.11 as 10.4.9; and doesn't show the name/type of processor, nor its MHz speed, at all. These fields are editable, allowing you to fill them in/correct them, so Cinebench can keep a record of the tests you've done. Also be aware that it can take Cinebench a long time to complete its tests, so be patient while it doesn't appear to be doing much.
