"capo" ??? please change this ugly name to something more related to music. Examples: Verdi, Mozart, Stradivarius, Nabucco, Figaro...

I am tired of applications saying they are free when they are not. You need to make an In-App-Purchase. Please Macupdate, stop this and start specifying which applications are really free, which ones have an In-App-Purchase and which ones are a subscription (and the renewal period).

I'm still using Transcribe! instead of Capo, mainly because I'm used to it, but any time I'm trying Capo I discover something new and I'm more and more impressed! Today I've discovered the "isolation" part on the right pane: it allows you to isolate an instrument to focus on it and it's really amazing. I've been working on Ray Charles' What'd I Say where the instruments are panned quite heavily, so you can nearly get only the piano and cancel the drums! It surely will give the best results with old recordings from the sixties with a lot of separation. In modern pop recordings where a lot of things are mixed dead center, it's harder but you can have good results using this feature to make a karaoké file instead, etc. The only thing that I prefer in Transcribe! is that you can click anywhere in the waveform to place the cursor: in Capo, you have to click on the ruler instead. Also, you can create regions (which is an interesting feature), but the cursor won't move automatically to the start of the region you've just created, which would be an interesting option.

I'm not sure this app is very effective. Have downloaded and tried it for several times. The idea of slowing down the song is good but in practice it become boring process. Much simpler and quicker way is to see the song notes in the Internet. Just my opinion.

I'm curious if any of you Capo Users might have some Information for me. I'm looking for a Client/App to Write (basically) Lead Sheets. I'd love to be able to Type-in Lyrics and be able to post Chord Symbols above the Lyrics... and a Lead/Melody Line like in a Fake Book. Any ideas?

I'm pretty impressed by the features! The tempo detector seems to work ok, the chords detector is not perfect but I like the ability to enter midi notes based on the spectrogram and then export a midi file! The slowed down sound is quite perfect, idem for the detuned sound. Only problem for me: I tune my guitars one tone lower, so the displayed chords don't match. It would be nice to add some pref for guitarists using a different tuning, I'm sure I'm not the only one (what about Hendrix? ;-) ). Also, if you want to totally hide chords or tabs, or expand the sound wave display, you can't.

I've been using Capo since mid 2012 and would like to compliment the developers on a job well done. Capo is an amazing program and the SuperMegaUltraGroovy support team has been responsive and helpful. Updates are published quickly and the few issues I've encountered have all been solved. If you're looking for a tool that will automagically transcribe your favourite tunes flawlessly you may have to wait (and probably pay a lot more than $30). But if you're looking for a learning tool that will help you to decrypt guitar leads, chord progressions, melodies, etc. Capo is certainly worth a look.

Does anyone know of a nice Ap that allows someone to do simple Comp Charts? Basically just Lyrics with Chord Symbols above?

This is great program ( albeit somewhat pricy for my pocket book )that automatically detects chords (tablature form for string instruments ) in the song when you load it. That helps me learn to play the song even though I do not play guitar. Slowing down and changing pitch is helpful in hearing the effects at different speeds and pitch before deciding how to score the music.

I do not like it, costs too much to upgrade periodically.

There’s a big difference between Capo and others, the point is it allows me to listen to a song at a pace that I like, so the good thing will be I can learn to sing a song and meantime to do that in an unfamiliar language. Love it.

Correcting a comment someone made below: you can drag a tune from iTunes just fine. It just doesn’t get dragged into the usual launch window, it has to get dragged into the blank window intended for this.

As a music teacher, I've been transcribing musical solos for over 25 years and I have to say I love this program. I just upgraded from version 2 and version 3 adds a few bells and whistles that make it a more polished product. Pros: Fast, easy to use, built-in vocal reduction, built-in speed and pitch changes, chord recognition, an all-in-one solution for transcribing songs and solos. Cons: Chord recognition isn't perfect, a bit pricey for the hobbyist, can get a little glitchy at extreme pitch or time changes. For me, this is a great for teaching and also for figuring out those really tough solos. Another reviewer pointed out that it wasn't accurate for detecting chords but that's a tall order since the same group of notes can technically be more than one chord. Add to that a moving bass line and other instruments playing different inversions and even a human will have some trouble from time to time detecting the correct chord. And as others have pointed out, you can do pitch changes and time changes in Logic and other audio programs (if you own them) but having all the tools optimized for learning makes this a faster solution. I used to bounce songs between two audio editors and now I just use Capo. It also looks like the developers are always tweaking the software and adding features so I can't wait to see how Capo improves over the next year. This is a must have for serious students and music arrangers and educators.

I don't know what all the fuss is over this program. The "demo" lasts only 10 minutes! The chord identification failed miserably on a popular song with an orchestral background. And I mean _miserably_. The orchestration had some augmented fifths and sixths and, apparently failing to identify them, it just started making up simple chords like Em etc. So I tried a clean recording of one of my own songs which was only an acoustic guitar playing strummed chords and a simple, one-note lead. The piece contained some jazz chords. It identified Cmaj7 as Em and completely punted similarly on things like Gaug7. So I tried it on a simple three-chord song (Buck Owens' Cryin' Time). It correctly identified the chords that are in the song (I, IV and V in the key of Ab) but missed numerous transitions and the ones that were correctly identified were frequently displaced in time, according to the cursor position. I did have a chance to try slowing down the music, and that part seemed to work well. Maybe I could work something out with this program if the trial period were longer than 10 minutes, but phewy on the whole thing. :-D

Awesome Tool! Great UI! Does exactly as advertised and has a modern and clean look & feel. Cool 1min explanation videos in the startscreen. 5 Minutes and you're good to go. This is the best guitar learning app I have ever seen!

Whatever I try to slow down, the time stretch algorithm seems to be glitchy. For some minor slowdown it has no or less artifacts but more then 10% slow down is bad quality. I understand it is hard to compete with the pro timestretch algorithms from for example Logic or Cubase (Warp is amazing btw) but the high asking price demants something that sounds better imo

Just some comments since I can't review it, given that it requires 10.6. From what I recall the previous version worked fine on my Mac running 10.5.x, but I never bought the application. Sound quality was really good even at extreme settings, it was easy to use, and had some useful effects (e.g., EQ., Voice Reduction, Mono). Version 2 adds more features like spectrogram and TAB, but I can't comment on those. When I tried Capo it was a $40 application, on sale for $20 here at Mupromo as I recall. I have to admit that $20 was a nice deal. That being said, there are plenty of alternatives these days, from the already established Transcribe! and Amazing Slow Downer to other applications that do MUCH MORE than slow down audio, such as Mac audio editors like Twisted Wave, Wave Editor, and DSP Quattro (currently on sale). Many Digital Audio Workstations also include speed/pitch capabilities. Reaper for example has a very good algorithm, and the current price is $40 for versions 3 and 4, or $60 for versions 4 and 5 once version 4 is out. To me Capo is a very nice sounding, easy to use application. However, it does not add as much value as other applications that have plenty of useful features, from full DAWs to batch processing audio to VST/AU hosting. With just a bit of work and Jack OS X, for example, I can also use DSP Quattro as a sound enhancer similar to Hear, DPS, AstoundSound, iWOW, etc. I haven't tried it system wide, though. So for my needs $50 is just too much for Capo. I may take another look by version 3 since I do like it.

Instead, I now recommend Sonic Visualiser. I tried to add it to the suggestions but for some reason it isn't showing up here in the listing...
