ApolloOne overview

ApolloOne is designed from the ground up as a fast, efficient, and feature-rich media viewer. It uses advanced operating-system features such as multi-threading, Grand Central Dispatch, and Core Image graphics to ensure app responsiveness.

Features
  • Rapid viewing of all photos/videos in the folder and subfolders by simply double clicking on a single photo anywhere on the system (once you have granted drive access)
  • Ultra-fast camera RAW preview engine
  • Rotate, mirror, flip photos and video instantly
  • Fluid swipe photo viewing mode with trackpad and Magic Mouse support (just like you would view photos on the iPhone or iPad)
  • Supercharged EXIF inspector with comprehensive information; you can change font size or perform quick search on the information on this screen
  • Powerful slideshow function with 12 GPU-accelerated transition effects and many user configurable options; slideshow runs on full screen or in a window(1)

  • Display camera AF points and detected faces and magnify them for checking focus and cycle through them quickly (on supported cameras)
  • Tag and rate files for copy / move / trash operation; you can tag or rate files quickly using keyboard shortcut keys; file rating uses IPTC/XMP compatible Rating field
  • File filtering and sorting with 2-level sort key
  • Sharing with Facebook, Twitter, Sina Weibo, etc., and AirDrop
  • User customizable toolbar

I downloaded the free version because Bridge was full of errors and would not work properly on my M1 Mac. So I downloaded this. It certainly seemed a good alternative to Bridge and has a lot of potential but it is full of bugs. It locks up constantly when there are too many images in a folder, and when you delete an image during slideshow, the slideshow doesn't refresh properly and shows a random photo beneath all the other photos. it pests you constantly to pay for it, the menus are confusing and it repeatedly locks up. And the developers have the nerve to use a subscription for payment! Come off it. Who would pay by the month for this junk?

I liked it at one point, but when it stopped working because I hadn't paid, I stopped using it. I only wanted a slideshow app, and there are others just as capable without the cost. Bye-bye.

Going to subscription only shows what the developer thinks about their customers. Easy cash cows! Reason enough to look elsewhere.

ApolloOne is now subscription so I found another app to use ApolloOne was a little buggy and slow anyway so no big loss.

I'm dubious. I've been using Lyn for so long. Not having to bother with Photos or Preview, Lyn accesses all folders and all mounted volumes. The corrections are rudimentary, but useful. It's an app I gave my wife to use to organize and populate a folder for a 1 hour presentation. At $20, it's a bargain. Try it out. No connections to Lyn developer. Just a satisfied user.

Very convenient to see or work with many photos, with "Preview" default app is very cumbersome and the preview works (clicking on the space bar) is comfortable as long as you have to open a few photos. Just set the folders with the photos and... enough! Everything works with great speed! Congratulations to the developers!

I like this software a lot, until I was trying to manage photos on network volume. It can't delete selected images, because network volume "has no trashcan", and there isn't any option to enable direct deleting on network volume. That's the most absurd thing I've ever seen for an image managing software. Sent feedback to developer and no response. Just skip it if you need to access image files on network volume.

I have been alertered in the very last line of fine print that it offers in-app purchases. But it states very clearly that it's FREE. So what do it get with the FREE version?

Beautiful interface and is very fast. Often crashes on me though when I try to rate or filter photos though. OS X 10.11.6. Might be a permissions issue for that folder. Still filtering on rating didn't work for me either even when I was able to rate on some folders. Frustrating. Turns out toolbar filtering doesn't work but menu filtering does work. Does not consistently read XMP style Bridge/FastRawViewer ratings. It doesn't seem ApolloOne writes ratings which other applications can view either. Lyn does read ApolloOne ratings but sadly DxO Photo Lab and FastRawViewer do not. You can move files just by drag and drop but they copy don't move.

Keep in mind the full app is $10 (fantastic deal if it would work for rating). In the meantime, though not as pretty, FastRawViewer is very reliable and stores rating data in XMP files which Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, DxO Photo Lab, Capture One and Iridient Developer all pick up. I'm DxO Photo Lab and Iridient Developer user myself.

Lots of potential here. I'd love to drop $10 on it right away if the filtering would work consistently and ratings and labels were kept in compatible XMP files which would work with Adobe Bridge compliant applications like DxO Photo Lab and FastRawViewer. ApolloOne is worth buying for its ability to show you where your focus point was when browsing through a shoot.

Focus point reveal worked for Canon 5DIII, 5DS R, Sony A6300 and Fujifilm X-H1. I.e. It's the most reliable feature in ApolloOne strangely.

I like ApolloOne a lot, and it’s my go-to image viewer. I particularly value the EXIF viewer with mapping to show image locations, and new features like the ability to customize the toolbar and to display the filename at the top of the window without the path are welcome additions. I only wish ApolloOne would remember when I've rotated an image, so I wrote to the dev who (as he always has) replied promptly and is now looking at adding this feature.
