Does AMPPS have an easy-to-use GUI interface like Mamp Pro where the user can quickly set up multiple virtual hosts, quickly set the various ports, quickly set the folder path to each virtual host, etc.? Or does AMPPS require fiddling with a multitude of config files, manually messing with the hosts file, etc.? Also, I run a well-established four-year-old WP blog with hundreds of pages of blog entries with one of my virtual hosts running Mamp Pro. Would it be easy to transfer the blog to a AMPPS setup without losing any of the data? Also, doe AMPPS use its own Apache, mySQL and PHP installations, or is AMPPS simply a GUI wrapper for OS X's built-in Apache, mySQL and PHP installations? Is AMPPS currently fully compatible with the El Capitan Golden Master? Clear answers to these questions is key in determining whether or not I should even consider a switch from Mamp Pro to AMPPS. Thanks in advance to anyone who may respond.

I really can't understand why AMPPS get so few downloads compared to MAMP PRO. Till last year I used MAMP which is free. Then I bought MAMP PRO via MacUpdate but found out it was unusable unless I constantly work with an adminaccount. I asked for support but never got any reaction. Then out of frustration I quit using MAMP, looked for a replacement and started using AMPPS. AMPPS is a delight, with a good forum and very active and helpfull support. IMHO AMPPS should be the default choice for a localhost development app and certainly all who uses MAMP and MAMP PRO should switch to it. Best of all: it's free!

I installed v.2.1 to prepare my WordPress site. All fine. But as soon as I wanted to update AMPPS to a higher version, now 2.4, one sees this is a free program with no good support. I Googled, read the forum etc., but is is impossible to get 2.4 running without loosing your files. I made complete backups, replaced maps and files thousands of times. Like for example this page says: http://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=5123 Nothing works though. There's no proper manual. On the forum you are in all kinds of highly technical stuff in no time once you want something simple as updating your software. I'm completely f*cked up by the lack of good information and normal procedures. Horrible software unless you're a developer. Bye AMPPS.

AMPPS 2.4 is out. --> http://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=5402&title=Ampps_2.4 Would note that AMPPS Support has already provided an answer for two issues that some users have reported. 1. PHP Scripts/phpMyAdmin do not work. 2. AMPPS Home i.e http://localhost/ampps gives a blank page. --> http://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=5404&tpg=2&title=Can%27t_access_AMPPS_Home#p19708

MAMP Pro Killer! I've switched to AMPPS today. It way better than MAMP (even the Pro version). You can setup virtual host easily, it comes with software stack auto-installer, easy to manage open source installations such as wordpress, joomla, drupal etc, good for working with multiple dev environments, and the important thing, that MAMP doesnt have, (even for their MAMP Pro users) is .. support.

AMPPS worked for me the first two times I used it. • On the third use PHP refused to run. • User must have a continuous ongoing internet connection otherwise AMPPS refuses to work as a webserver! On the other hand Apple's built-in webserver, does work while offline. I was hoping to be able to use some of AMPPS advanced features while disconnected from the web and still be able to edit/test my websites before uploading to my host. • Another thing I disliked about AMPPS, the application has a presence in the Dock, Menubar and a window, none of which the user can dismiss.

I switched from using MAMPS Pro for several years to AMPPS for the following reasons: 1) AMPPS has been easier to teach to my kids than MAMPS 2) In my view, MAMPS has some pieces related to the user configuration which are "more closed, less transparent" than AMPPS. AMPPS directly provides the raw config files. MAMPS layers a closed source GUI on various config files. 3) AMPPS directory structure is more like our live server directory structure than MAMPS. 4) AMPPS more convenient to use. In particular, the basic CPanel and Softaculous are particularly helpful in working with installing and maintaining open source web apps such as WordPress.

Have used MAMP earlier but have to say that AMPPS is easier and best of all it comes with a very helpful support. A support who could suggest god solutions for things a wanted to do but was not included. A quick and easy way to install a couple of different services to find out whats the best for me for this work.

Installé ce matin. Sympathique solution.

I purchased MAMP PRO some time ago and am quite pleased with its performance. It is quite stable and easy to use, even for an Apache and mySQL novice like myself. I currently run six different domains with it, and very rarely have had a problem with it. I know that my domains are always up and running, and I never have to worry about it. I would be very interesting in reading comments from folks here who have used BOTH this app -- AMPPS -- and MAMP PRO. How do they compare? Which one is more powerful, stable, expandable, easy to add new domains to, easy to upgrade, etc.? Thanks so much! For the record, I don't really anticipate switching from MAMP PRO unless it becomes outrageously expensive at some point in the future, but I am interested in other opinions.

This app is great, it's include softaculous. I've ever try other similiar app before: Mamp and xampp. And tempted to buy mamp pro, but fortunately found this app. It's stable, more stable than mamp, it more mac look than xampp. But its free. Hope it will still free.
